April OMG Not Again

I have made great progress on my March/April/now May OMG.  I have been diligently stitching, but alas, there are only a few hours left in the day.  It will not get done by the deadline.  I will stitch on and enjoy the process.  The wonderfulness about OMG is celebrating that which you have accomplished and the knowledge that there is no penalty for the failed attempt.  I have some more leaves and vine to applique and some 3D flowers to make for the corners after I attach the borders to the quilt center.  Then comes the quilting and fun.

Fabric for Fly Away With Me

The color palette for this quilt was pink, turquoise and yellow with highlights of black and chocolate.  I was drawn to this sloth fabric as my inspiration fabric.
I am very fond of this sloth fabric and I wish I could have ordered more but everyone was out of it so I could only get one yard so I am not quite sure how I will use it in the quilt.  My thought was to use it in the borders surrounding the hexagon stars.  I will have to trace out the hills and see if it works. TBD.

The outline fabric for the hexagon stars was pink with white spots.  I liked the lilac fabric with the cat head spots.  I thought there was something humorous about using this with the bird appliques. I also like the plum popcorn fabric.  I intend on using both fabrics.  I may use both to make the hexagon stars or I may use the plum popcorn for the stars and use the lilac cats in the applique squares.  I need 24 fabrics for the interiors of lozenges of hexagons stars.  Above is a selection of fabrics from Connecting Threads called Pen and Ink that I may use.
I also selected some more Cotton and Steel fabrics.  The big surprise was my Kaffe Mystery fat quarter bundle.  The pattern calls for small, medium and large scale florals and geometrics.  I took a chance on the mystery pack.
I got what looks similar to shot cottons.  Great colors.  I need to pick a fabric for 35 hexies that are in the centers of the lozenges and the star centers.  Maybe one of these solids will end up there.
Here are some smaller scale Kaffe.
Here are the large scales.
These were on sale as well.  I thought the fish might make some great fabrics for the feathers on the birds and I might be able to use the fish eyes as bird eyes.
These fabrics were in my stash and I I thought they might meet the color requirements for the quilt.

The teal cats might be the fabric I use for the bird cage.  I am so very happy with what I have so far.
Here is the wonderful quilt that I will attempt to make.  The directions warn that is not one for a beginner.  Marg Sampson-George says to make the hexagons when you just need to do some mindless stitching and tackle the other appliques when you are up to the challenge.  I love a quilt that mixes it up like that.  Can't wait.  But I should really finish some UFO's before I dive into the fun.

April OMG

Sad to say I did not meet my March OMG.  I made some progress on appliqueing the flowers on the border of my Blooms for Julie Quilt Project from The Quilt Show.  I will be persistent and make this my April OMG.  I always think I can get more done than is actually possible.  I do like needle turn so I will keep at it.  I picked a take and go project for last month because I was visiting children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Lots of travel last month.  I may have a lot this month as well.  The watchword for the month is persistence.  Note that persistence does not interfere with the Joy of the process.
